Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and [Your legal entity name] ("we", "us") for your use of Katha, a personal tool that turns comics you upload into narrated, auto-scrolling reading experiences. By creating an account or using Katha, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

1. Who can use Katha

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent where you live, if higher) and able to form a binding contract. You're responsible for keeping access to your email account secure, because that's how you sign in.

2. Your content

  • You keep ownership. Anything you upload stays yours. We don't claim any rights to it.
  • You must have the rights. You may only upload comics you own or are legally permitted to use for personal reading. By uploading, you confirm that you have those rights and that processing the content as described here doesn't infringe anyone's rights.
  • Limited permission to us. You give us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide permission to store, process and transmit your content (including to the AI providers listed in the Privacy Policy) solely to provide Katha to you. It ends when your content is deleted.
  • Private by design. Your uploads and everything generated from them are visible only to your account. There is no public sharing or catalogue.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Katha to:

  • upload content you don't have the rights to, or distribute, publish or sell narrated versions of works you don't own;
  • upload anything illegal, including child sexual abuse material, content that exploits minors, or content promoting terrorism or violence;
  • impersonate real people or create deceptive audio of real people;
  • attempt to access other users' data, probe or bypass our security, or disrupt the service;
  • scrape, resell or build a competing service from Katha, or use it to overload third-party services.

We may remove content and suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and report illegal content to the authorities where required.

4. Copyright complaints

We respect intellectual property. If you believe content on Katha infringes your rights, follow our Copyright Policy. We remove infringing material and close the accounts of repeat infringers.

5. AI-generated output

Transcripts, speaker assignments, character descriptions and voices are generated automatically by AI. They can be inaccurate: text may be misread, lines attributed to the wrong character, genders or names guessed wrongly, and words mispronounced. You can review and correct transcripts before audio is generated. Voices are synthetic; they don't represent any real voice actor or person.

6. No affiliation

Katha is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any comic publisher, creator or platform. All titles, characters, artwork and trademarks belong to their respective owners.

7. Storage, retention and deletion

  • Original page uploads are deleted as soon as a chapter finishes processing.
  • Chapters (panels, transcripts and audio) are deleted automatically 30 days after their last activity. Reading, editing or processing a chapter resets the timer.
  • You can delete any chapter, series or your whole account at any time from the app. Deletion is permanent.
  • Katha is not a backup service. Keep your own copies of anything you upload.

8. Third-party services

Katha relies on third-party providers for hosting, storage, email and AI processing (see the Privacy Policy). Their availability and limits (for example, daily AI quotas) can affect how quickly chapters are processed, or which voice engine is used.

9. Disclaimers

Katha is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that your content will be preserved.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, content, profits or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to Katha is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or USD 50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from content you upload, your breach of these terms, or your infringement of anyone's rights.

12. Suspension and termination

You can stop using Katha and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you break these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service. We'll try to give reasonable notice where we can.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For material changes we'll update the version number and ask you to accept the new terms the next time you use Katha.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [Country / State], and disputes are subject to the courts there, except where the law of your country of residence gives you the right to bring claims locally.
